Eva’s meme x 2
February 10, 2008
So the lovely Eva, over at a striped armchair , tagged me for the following meme(s). How excitement!
What else do you do to pass the leisure time?
You mean other than read and hunt books?
As shocking a confession as this may be, I actually play a lot of sport. I play midfield in my local first division football (soccer) team, and I’m also learning classical Ju-Jitsu. Many of my booky friends find my enjoyment of sport rather disturbing, as they consider sport the very antithesis of a reading life. But I find that I need a good balance between the mental and physical to keep me happy. I also really love a good thought-provoking film and can be found pretty frequently at my local Dendy. I don’t own a television, so live music, theatre, art exhibitions and BBQ’s with mates take up any other time I’ve got spare.
Meme Number Two-the 123 Meme
So the rules for this one are;
1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
The closest book to me is Ian McEwan’s Saturday.
“The blinds on the third floor are drawn - Theo is still asleep. Henry can still remember it, the exquisite tumbling late-morning doze of adolescence, and he never questions his son’s claim to those hours. They won’t last.”
Meme Number Three 10 Signs I’ve Written a Book.
I’m assuming that as I’ve not written a book, I’m just meant to engage the imagination on this one.
- It would be a biography, probably of an Australian cultural figure- an artists, writer or perhaps a patron of some sort.
- I’d prefer it be a work of fiction but I accept that I lack the imagination for such an endeavour.
- I’d use colour plates in the book, especially if we were talking about an artist. I get really furious when publishers put pictures of an artists work in a book in black & white. I mean why bother?
- It would be meticulously researched, (because I love researching) but owing to the fact that I’d feel compelled to put everything in, it would be an excruciating read.
- I’d need to have full control of the jacket design.
- My grasp on grammar and punctuation is a rather tenuous one, so my editor would have their work cut out for them.
- I’d practise my signature regularly in the hope that someone would bail me up pleading for me to sign their copy, hahaha!
- I’d try to use it to score some kind of V.I.P pass to all the really big writers festivals, so I could meet all those fabbo authors!
- It would undoubtedly be written during those days when the server crashes regularly, the person next to me mobile phone complete with annoying ring-tone keeps going off every four seconds, and I am required to attend meetings in which words such as ’value-add’, ‘challenge’ and ‘encourage’ are used with alarming frequency.
- It would be really great if I could retire off the royalties, never write another books and sit around reading all day long as a result of the undertaking.
I tag Logophilia, Tanabata and Melanie, simply because its the first time I’ve been able to tag anyone and I’m very intrigued to hear about what other people get up to in their leisure time!! I hope you all don’t mind memes? Apologies if you do!

OK. Mine are up. I didn’t answer the leisure time one on my blog though. My main leisure activity after reading is taking pictures. Plus it’s something my husband and I enjoy doing together.
