I’ve got several reviews backed up but I need to carve out something that vaguely resembles spare time, in order to get around to posting them. So for today all I can offer is a few cools links I’ve stumbled across recently.

First off check out this rather interesting article I stumbled across whilst procrastinating at work. The article takes the p.o.v of both a (fictious) publisher and a librarian, and discusses some experiences and issues of the both these book centred professions.

Also, I noticed that The Monthly Magazine has put up a great video of Alain de Botton talking about the pleasures and sorrows of work – go check it out, or if you’ve read the book, tell me what you thought?

Lastly, and due to access issues this will be directed mostly towards Aussie readers, has anyone read Steve Carroll’s The Lost Life yet? I’m super intrigued and am wondering what others think.

I just picked up The Lost Life from the library this afternoon! I will let you know what I think soon. The story sounds gorgeous and I have only heard good things about it so I am hopeful. I haven’t read any of his other stuff before – have you?

Thanks for posting the link to the publisher/librarian piece. I’m off to read it as we speak!

I just wanted to let you know that I started reading The Lost Life last night and I am already half way through – it is fantastic! The only reason I didn’t read the whole thing was because I was so tired!

Karen! I’m totally jealous! I suspected it was going to be a goody. Thanks for keeping me up to date, I’m so off to buy it today! I can’t believe you managed to get it from your library so quickly? I’ve reserved a copy but I’m currently the 72nd person in the queue. I totally can’t wait that long! :D

When you are finished (around lunchtime today I’m imagining?!), I would totally recommend his The time we Have Taken which won the Miles Franklin last year. It’s actually the last in a trilogy, (The Art of the Engine Driver and the The Gift of Speed were the first two) but you can read it as a standalone no worries. Though I’d totally recommend them all! I really love his stuff. I can’t wait to read your review! :D

    Andi, hello there!
Thanks for stopping by. It certainly burst my bubble about the world of publishing! Noooo desire to ever be an editor now! :D

I wish I could finish it by lunchtime!! Unfortunately work will get in the way of that plan! I will probably end up buying this one too I think – it is such a beautiful book inside and out.
Thanks for the suggestions – Did you read the trilogy in order??

Darn that J.O.B! yeah I did read them in order, but that was because I read them as they were being published so I didn’t have an option! If you decide to read them in order it will be a beautiful meandering journey!

I will read them in order – I think if I read the last one and loved it I would regret not having started with the first book. I finished The Lost Life last night – stunning! I will post a review this weekend. Hope you picked it up yesterday.

Leah, I’m so sorry I’ve taken this long to return to my blog and the awaiting news! That is really kind of cool *blush*.
