About

I’m an Aussie, who currently resides in our nation’s capital. By day I’m a social policy analyst, trying earnestly to check my cynicism long enough to make good policy happen. By night and err… weekend, I’m a card carrying book nerd, library fiend and book blog worshipper.
I enjoy long chats about nothing in particular, political singer-songwriters, interesting films, strong black coffee, Fijian-Indian curries and good crisp apples.
Thoughts, Comments, or existentialist musings you’d like to share? Love to hear them! Drop me a line antipodeanowl(at)gmail(dot)com

I’ve added you to my blog lists because I love all things Aussie and haven’t met anyone from Canberra before. My cousins are Aus. citizens and live in Victoria State.Town’s just flown out of my mind.

Aww shanks Daphne!
Victoria is really lovely and high on my list of ‘places to move to’. If it wasn’t for this pesky fullfilling Government occupation of mine, I’d be there in a flash!

What does antipodeanowl mean? I’ve been wondering that since I saw your blog on Metaxu Cafe.

Hey Bluestocking!
Apologies for tardy reply, I’ve been ‘off the air’ for a bit. In response to your question, Antipodean owl doesn’t really mean anything. The antipodean was chosen firstly coz I’m an Aussie, and secondly because I’ve always liked the word. As for the owl, ever since I was a kid I’ve always had a thing for owls and now kinda collect owl themed “stuff”! Being not too creative I just bunged them together and wala! instant handle!

I am also a book nerd and once lived in Canberra-married to a prof. at ANU.I never should have left but I was homesick for Florida. I still have a friend who moved to Perth to attend law school. She has made the Florida trip two or three times, but I have not been back to Oz. I will add you to my blogroll as you sound like an interesting person. My favorite books, songs, and movies are listed on my site.

Hey there,
I’m an ANU PhD grad, just back from a month of blessed re-acquaintance with Canberra. I didn’t see much, except the computer screen and ANU, didn’t even make it to Lyneham! But I did, did, did !!! go to Paperchain at Manuka -which must be the BEST bookshop in Australia.
Ohhh…. and I’m o looking forward to the PhD submission and then…. more adventures with books!
Love your blog and keep up the great work
